This week residents in the remaining Ballymun flats on Silloge Road received news that following extensive discussions between Ballymun Regeneration and James Elliott Construction a new contractual agreement for the completion of the housing scheme in Silloge (which faces on to Poppintree Park) was signed on Tuesday 18th October 2011. The original building programme ground to a halt when Pyrite was discovered and the new homes have lay empty ever since.A report was presented to the Oireachtas this week which predicted the cost of repairing the pyrite problem in a number of Ballymun's would amount to €10.5 million. Fianna Fáil Councillor for Ballymun and Finglas, Paul Mcauliffe is to seek assurances from council officals that the Ballymun motor taxation office will remain open for business. The move follows Dublin City Council's decision to close the Nutgrove Motor Tax Office at the end of this year. "The motor tax office is a key tenant in the new Ballymun Civic Office buildings and its loss would undermine the regeneration project which the City Council is sponsoring. The office serves all the north Dublin suburbs and is part of the City Council's plans to bring services closer to the community" said Cllr McAuliffe. Read More
